WESTFIELD SHOPPING CENTER - SEGRATE (MILAN)
It is a mall for commercial, catering, and leisure purposes whose construction was temporarily adjourned.
The plot is expanded over an area of about 60 hectares on the outskirts of Milan and consists of several independent structural units that together constitute the shopping mall and its parking lots.
- The structure of the shopping center is made of main and secondary composite beams, connected with steel studs to a corrugated sheet with a superimposed concrete slab.
- Because of the high in plan stiffness, the floors act as rigid diaphragms for transferring horizontal forces to the resistant elements constituted by the cores, braced frames and frames with fixed nodes.
- The decks of the parking buildings are made of pre-compressed pre-cast elements with a double T section laid over 16by8m grid lines.
All multi-storey car parks will be connected to the building by bridges leading users to the entrance halls of the shopping center.
The structure, consistent with the characteristics of the prefabrication system, is based on the concept which assigns the resistance to gravitational loads is to the system of decks and columns; while lateral stability is entirely effected by the stability cores and walls cast in situ with traditional procedures.
