SNAM HEADQUARTER IN MILAN: INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
WINNING PROJECT OF AN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR NEW SNAM HEADQUARTER IN MILAN
The new head-quarter will be erected in the area located on South from Romana city Gate and will feature three superimposed volumes expanded in 14 floors for a total surface of 19000 m2
A peculiar characteristic of the structures is the existence of superimposed volumes with large over-hangings.
The longitudinal over-hangings are located at the opposite sides while the one in the transversal direction, developed over three floors, appears on one side only.
The resultant of all the over-hanging actions has a limited eccentricity from the centroid of the vertical bearing members and the foundation raft.
The core feature a tubular section for best resisting the two way horizontal actions.
The peak stresses created over the entrances by the wall warping are resisted by strong connecting beams.
For the foundations the most efficient and cheap solution, aimed at minimize the settlements and therefore the relevant vertical displacements of the building parts, resulted in a soil directly supported raft with additional piles for reducing the settlements.
