NEW ACCESS WAYS INSIDE THE FIERA MILANO CITY PAVILLIONS
A structure designed to support exhibition layouts, already utilized as the Media Center for the 2026 Winter Olympics and currently serving future activities of MICO (Milano Congressi)
The project is related to the construction of a new transit for heavy duty transport means inside the pavillion P3 of the Milano Fair along Scarampo boulevard.
The new transit connects the bridges that overpass Teodorico and Colleoni streets thus allowing the transport means to move at the 7m elevation above ground.
The deck has a surface of 4160 m2 and the dimensions of around 220m by 18-20m.
The structures were designed with the aim of minimizing the interferences with the existing constructions and of allowing a fast erection.
Steel frames at 6.67m center lines are aligned in a row that is located at the middle of the existing spans that feature the same relative inter-distance.
The frames are hinged at the base and are extended with one or two cantilevers for covering the surfaces located over the existing ramps and between the elevator-hoists and stairs.
The resistance to horizontal actions is achieved in the transverse direction by the frames and in the other one by vertical V shaped bracings.
The concrete deck, that is connected with studs to the steel structures, constitutes a rigid diaphragm for the distribution of the seismic actions.
The deck is built with hollow core reinforced concrete elements, spiroll type.
Because of the large length of the deck two joints are included that feature interconnections with visco-elasic devices that allow for low velocity expansion displacements and lock these ones in case of shocks created by earthquakes.
