Services provided supervision and independent verification of the executive and construction design of the structure called Canopy on behalf of the General Contractor - The Wave S.C.A.R.L.
Architect BIG - BJARKE INGELS GROUP
Client The Wave S.C.A R.L.
Builder The Wave S.C.A R.L.
Contruction year 2024-2025

The “CityWave” construction, designed by BIG, is composed of two solid buildings connected by a long ribbon canopy continuous with the inclined roofings.

This structure covers the surface between the buildings with an around 135m length and a variable width.

The canopy plan features an X asymmetric shape that results from the crossing of two ribbons directed towards the center and connected to the ground by means of slender perimetral columns.

The structure is suspended by catenaries of cables that support a XLAM deck with perimetral unloaded columns housing vibration damping devices and drainage pipes.

The design constitutes a structural and a carrying out challenge for many issues: geometry control, erection phases, dynamic and aeroelastic behavior, details, maintenance and durability.

The design is supported by a number of special studies that include extensive wind tunnel tests, use of different damping systems, development of complex construction details.

On all these peculiarities of the structural design, that is prepared by H&B Engineering, Redesco is appointed for supervision and independent verification that include the implement of static, dynamic and evolutionary models and the validation and consulting for details, components and erection methods, thus contributing with its own experience to the work of the team involved in this ambitious construction.
